Celebrate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. by giving back to these local organizations. Here is our roundup of local nonprofits, where you can also donate your time and money outside of Martin Luther King Day, near your Palmer apartment.
Take A Breather Foundation — Since 2012, the Take A Breather Foundation has been living true to its name: providing a breather to those affected by cystic fibrosis through granting wishes. Through its programs, Take A Breather has provided trips to Disney World, the Bahamas, and provided other numerous gifts to families. The nonprofit offers numerous ways to contribute, including memorial contributions and by making purchases through the Amazon Smile Foundation.
West Park Cultural Center — Through arts programs, children and adults receive the mentorship they need through the West Park Cultural Center. Each year, the center brings families together for the West Park Arts Fest, a day of performances, vendors, activities and workshops. The center provides several volunteer opportunities. This includes tutoring and ceramics assistance with adults and children. Additionally, you can help the organization reach more people through copywriting, database entry, marketing, photography and video production.
West Philadelphia Alliance for Children (WePAC) —As the only nonprofit in Philadelphia working to open closed school libraries, the West Philadelphia Alliance for Children aims to promote childhood literacy. The nonprofit provides numerous ways to get involved with the cause. This includes the Library Buddies program and by volunteering as a book cataloger. You can also donate books and your own funds.
